The Ribera del Duero winemaker María Luisa Cuevas adds the term “Origen” to her flagship wine so that consumers can grasp “the roots” of this wine and differentiate it from the others from her coquettish boutique winery in Ribera del Duero.
From now on, this name will be used for Ferratus, which has evolved in its style, adapting even more to the tastes of today’s consumers: the ripe fruit so typical of FERRATUS continues to predominate, but with a very pleasant freshness that invites you to drink one glass after another.
The new appellation is consolidated with the release of FERRATUS ORIGEN 2017, a cosmopolitan, fruity, fresh and agile wine.
And what strikes us most in Ferratus Origen 2017? The powerful presence of black fruit (blackcurrant, blueberry and blackberry) which, coupled with pure velvet tannin and freshness, makes it FASCINATING.
Although the 2017 vintage was marked in Ribera del Duero by the now historic frost of April 27-28 (-6ºC), which meant a significant decrease in production, this did not prevent the production of wines of extraordinary quality, of which this Ferratus Origen is a clear exponent.
The Ferratus Origen 2017 was harvested as always by hand, in 14-kilo boxes and with double selection on the table. It is made from 100% Tempranillo grapes from 60 to 70-year-old vines, located at an altitude of 860 meters above sea level. Its aging of 14 months in new French oak barrels and its current 3 years in bottle allow it to be considered a very modern, fruity and lively reserve, with structure and strength, despite being labeled as usual as a vintage.
Tasting Notes
- More cosmopolitan style. Intense cherry red, medium-high layer, clean and bright.
- Nose is complex and harmonious with aromas of cherries in liquor, black currant (cassis), blueberry, red rose petal “Baccara” and black pepper. Balsamic, mineral, with a background of sweet vanilla and very subtle bitter finish.
- Fascinating in the mouth, modern, fresh, very versatile and easy to drink. Very polished velvety tannin. Wood very well integrated with the fruit that persists in the mouth. Smooth entry, but in seconds the fruit intensity increases on the palate. Very long and pleasant aftertaste of black fruit, cassis, combined with sweet notes of vanilla.
Production limited to 13,600 bottles.
