On March 8th, International Women’s Day, at FERRATUS we want to honor the women who inspire us and whose legacy has paved the way in the world of wine

On this special date, we want to highlight one of the greatest references in the world of wine, whose story is a testament to hard work and talent: Jancis Robinson: Jancis Robinson.

In 1984, in a male-dominated industry, Jancis made history by becoming the first person outside the wine trade to obtain the prestigious Master of Wine title. She broke barriers in a world where wine criticism and analysis were reserved for a select few, proving that knowledge and passion know no gender.

Since then, her impact has been undeniable. In 2000, she founded her own website, JancisRobinson.com, which has become a global reference in wine analysis and criticism. She is also the author of The Oxford Companion to Wine, considered the most comprehensive wine encyclopedia in the world, and co-author of The World Atlas of Wine, which continues to set the standard in the industry.

Her dedication has inspired many women in the wine world, including María Luisa Cuevas, who deeply admires her.

Following in the footsteps of women who have changed the industry, María Luisa Cuevas also left behind an established career to embark on a journey into the world of wine. A lawyer by profession, she too decided in 2000 to change her professional path and follow her passion. She moved to Aranda de Duero (Burgos) and founded Ferratus, with the goal of crafting wines that reflect the identity and character of Ribera del Duero. Since then, Ferratus has established itself as a boutique winery that blends tradition and innovation.

Her work and that of her team have recently been recognized on JancisRobinson.com, where Ferrán Centelles, her collaborator and former head sommelier at El Bulli, awarded Ferratus Sensaciones 2019 a score of 17 out of 20, highlighting its “depth, opulence, and perfect harmony between fruit and tannins.”

Today, we celebrate women like Jancis Robinson and María Luisa Cuevas, who have proven that talent, determination, and passion can open any door—even in a world where they once had no place.
